06.Aug.2025

The traditional authorities and Leaders of Ga West Municipal have pledged their full support to ensuring peace before, during and after the 2025 Homowo Festive celebrations, an initiative championed by the Ga West Municipal Security Council (MUSEC). The meeting, which was held on Tuesday, 5th August at the Assembly Hall, saw the signing of a peace pact by representatives from all areas under the traditional Council.

In his remarks, Honourable John Desmond Sowah Nai, the Municipal Chief Executive for Ga West, highlighted his willingness to offer assistance that they will call on him for and called on all present to offer to maintain peace and order during the Homowo celebration.

ACP Susana Adjei, the Ga West Divisional Police Commander, also used the occasion to commend the traditional authorities for the improvement in Security experienced by the Municipal since she assumed office. She emphasised that peace brings development, togetherness, wealth, health, education and culture. She expressed her desire for this year’s Homowo celebration in the municipality to be an example for the following year’s festival.

The Homowo festival is derived from the Ga word, which means “hooting at hunger” It is a time for the Ga people to hoot and ridicule hunger after they have had a successful harvest. It is a celebration of victory over hardship and a time for merriment, family reunions and prayer for peace.

The Ga West Municipal Security Council said Homowo should be celebrated by all people in the Ga West traditional area, but where there are disputes during the previous celebration, the police had been directed to ensure that all activities should be restricted to only the family homes. All stakeholders present were advised to respect their Chiefs and leaders to ensure a successful celebration.

Present at the meeting were Honourable John Desmond Sowah Nai, ACP Susana Adjei, Commanders from all sectors of the Ga West Security Council, members of Ga West MUSEC and representatives from all traditional areas.
