The Ga West Municipal Assembly is headed by a political head that is the Municipal Chief Executive and is assisted administratively by the Municipal Co-ordinating Director who supervises twelve (12) departments in the Municipal Assembly.

The Assembly is composed of twenty (25) members made up of 17 elected members and 8 appointees (including the Member of Parliament and the Municipal Chief Executive). The Municipality is divided into four(4) Zonal Concils.

The General Assembly meetings are presided over by the Presiding Member (PM). The General Assembly has a Membership comprising of 12 Elected Members, 6 Government Appointees, the Member of Parliament and the Municipal Chief Executive who also chairs the Executive Committee.
