The National Youth Authority (NYA), through its Apprenticeship Support and Equipment Distribution Programme, has distributed tools and equipment to young apprentices in the Amasaman Constituency to support vocational skills training and youth empowerment.
The distribution exercise took place on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at the Ga West Municipal Assembly Hall and brought together the Regional NAP Director, Mr. Jones Klutse, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. John Desmond Sowah Nai, the Member of Parliament for Amasaman, Hon. Sedem Kweku Afenyo, Master crafts persons, and apprentices.
The programme seeks to equip young people with practical skills by fully sponsoring apprenticeship training, certification, and the provision of tools and equipment for hands-on learning.
Speaking at the event, the Regional NAP Director, Mr. Jones Klutse, described the initiative as a long-term investment in human capital development. He noted that the current distribution forms “Part One” of the support package and assured participants that additional phases would follow.
He encouraged beneficiaries to take the programme seriously and make good use of the opportunity to improve their lives through skills training.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Desmond Sowah Nai acknowledged that the programme had experienced delays but reaffirmed government’s commitment to ensuring its successful implementation. According to him, government is fully funding the apprenticeship training programme, while certificates would be issued free of charge upon completion.
He added that the government would continue providing equipment to support both training and future employment opportunities for the beneficiaries. The MCE further disclosed that discussions are ongoing to create sustainable opportunities for apprentices after their training.
The Member of Parliament for Amasaman, Hon. Sedem Afenyo also urged apprentices and their trainers to remain disciplined and responsible throughout the training period. He advised beneficiaries to take proper care of the equipment and called on master craftspersons to ensure effective supervision.
He further encouraged the apprentices to remain focused and committed to their training, reminding them that “many are called, but few are chosen.”
As part of the exercise, hairdressing apprentices received items including hair dryers, combs, scissors, towels, and tool bags to support their practical training.
Three industrial sewing machines with tables and motors were also presented to the master crafts persons to aid apprenticeship training in dressmaking.
In addition, the Regional NAP Coordinator distributed fifteen butterfly hand sewing machines and twelve pieces of thread to apprentices.
Stakeholders expressed optimism that the initiative would enhance skills acquisition and improve livelihood opportunities for young people in the constituency.
