The Ga West Municipal Assembly handed over classroom furniture to the Ga West Municipal Education Directorate on Tuesday, 4th August 2026, to improve teaching and learning conditions in schools across the Municipality.

The presentation ceremony took place at the Ga West Municipal Assembly’s premises and was attended by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. John Desmond Sowah Nai, the Presiding Member, Hon. Emmanuel Mawuli Amuzu, Assembly members, the Municipal Education Director, Mr. Victor Noye Tawiah, Heads of Departments and officials of the Education Directorate.

Addressing participants, Hon. John Desmond Sowah Nai stressed the importance of ensuring that the furniture is distributed fairly and transparently. He urged the Education Directorate to avoid bias, favouritism and familiarity in the allocation process, emphasizing that schools with the greatest need should be given priority.

The MCE also highlighted some of the Assembly's ongoing development initiatives aimed at improving the socio-economic well-being of residents. He cited the construction of the 24-hour market at Sontra Road as one of the key projects being undertaken to promote economic growth within the Municipality. His remarks were met with applause from participants.

The furniture package includes single hexagonal tables and chairs for kindergarten pupils, mono desks for primary schools, dual desks for upper primary and Junior High School students, as well as durable staff desks and chairs for teachers.

In all, about 1,000 pieces of furniture were supplied to schools across the Municipality. These include 400 mono desks, 30 sets of hexagonal tables and chairs, 500 staff furniture for teachers, in addition to dual desks for learners.

As part of the ceremony, the Municipal Chief Executive, the Municipal Coordinating Director and the Municipal Education Director personally tested some of the newly supplied desks and chairs to assess their comfort and suitability for learners and teachers.

The Municipal Education Director, Victor Noye Tawiah, expressed gratitude to the Municipal Assembly and the MCE for their intervention, describing it as timely and significant. He assured the Assembly that the furniture would be distributed equitably, transparently and strictly according to the needs of beneficiary schools to ensure maximum impact.

In his closing remarks, Hon. John Desmond Sowah Nai noted that the provision of the furniture would significantly improve the learning environment and contribute to the delivery of quality education across the Ga West Municipality.

The Ga West Municipal Assembly remains committed to investing in educational infrastructure and creating a conducive environment that supports effective teaching, enhances learning outcomes and improves the welfare of both learners and teachers throughout the Municipality.
