GEA Empowers Aspiring Entrepreneurs Through “Mindset Shift” Workshop at Amasaman

The Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) in collaboration with the Mastercard foundation on Tuesday, held an interactive Entrepreneurship and Business Development workshop under the "Business in a Box" Project for aspiring entrepreneurs in the Ga West Municipality, under the theme "Mindset Shift."

The Business in a Box (BizBox) Project is a four-year youth entrepreneurship and employment initiative being implemented by the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation. Its main purpose is to help young Ghanaians develop the skills, knowledge, connections and resources they need to start, operate and grow sustainable businesses, thereby creating jobs and improving livelihoods.

The workshop was coordinated by the head of the Business Advisory Centre at the Ga West Municipal Assembly, Madam Patience Balagi, and facilitated by Mr. Roland Nkansah and Mr. Charles Abakah. The participants were split into two groups.
The main theme of their presentation was shifting from a passive or defeatist mindset to a proactive, problem-solving approach. The sessions covered areas such as: reframing failure, value addition and innovation, branding, packaging and marketing, financial literacy, waste reduction, and business registration.

The speakers highlighted that failure should not be seen as the end of a business venture but as constructive feedback indicating the need for strategy adjustment. They also encouraged participants to focus on quality packaging, clear labelling (including expiry dates, nutritional information, and FDA approval details), maintaining a social media presence, and delivering bundled customer value if they want to stand out in competitive markets.

The "Mindset Shift" workshop demonstrated Mastercard Foundation’s commitment, through the BizBox Project, to equipping young entrepreneurs not just with business skills, but also with the right attitude to succeed. By reframing failure, emphasising innovation, branding, and financial literacy, participants left equipped with practical tools and a renewed motivation to start and grow sustainable businesses.
