Ga West Municipal marks 2025 ‘My First Day at School’

The Ga West Municipal Education Directorate has commemorated this year’s ‘My First Day at School’ with a colourful ceremony held at the Ga Odumase Amanfrom Cluster of Schools on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

The event which was aimed to welcome new pupils in kindergarten and primary school, encouraged them to remain in school, take their studies seriously, and make learning exciting. The programme also featured rhymes and recitals from the pupils.

In collaboration with the Ga West Municipal Assembly, the Education Directorate presented the pupils with exercise books, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, biscuits, and drinks as part of efforts to motivate them to be punctual and dedicated to their studies.

The celebration began with a welcome address by Reginald Acheampong, a kindergarten pupil of Ga Odumase Amanfrom Basic School A. The Municipal Director of Education officially welcomed the pupils and teachers back to school and introduced the Member of Parliament for Amasaman, Hon. Sedem Afenyo, and the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. John Desmond Sowah Nai.

The dignitaries, together with the Education Directorate, later presented the pupils with additional gifts such as stationery, drinks, biscuits, and cash donations.

Meeting with teachers from all four schools, the Municipal Education Director advised them to take good care of their health by eating well and exercising regularly.

During the MCE’s  remarks, he urged the children to take their education seriously. He also took the opportunity to educate them on law-making and the importance of obeying simple rules, such as proper waste disposal. He explained that plastic waste, when recycled, could be transformed into useful items such as classroom desks.

Hon. Sowah Nai expressed his gratitude to teachers for playing dual roles as educators and parents to the children. He appealed to the Education Directorate to support teachers who wished to further their education. He also announced government projects earmarked for the Odumase community, including the construction of a CHIPS compound with a laboratory facility, a 24-hour model market, and a six-unit classroom block.

Hon. Sedem Afenyo, in his address, reaffirmed his commitment to the Best Teacher Award scheme, promising to upgrade the ultimate prize to a vehicle in 2026. He encouraged teachers to remain hardworking and dedicated, while also disclosing that a newly built three-unit classroom block at Akwakyere would be commissioned on Friday, September 5, 2025. He further pledged to provide furniture for all schools within his constituency.

The MP, Hon. Sedem Afenyo, advised the pupils to love one another, live peacefully with their classmates, and remain committed to their studies. He also wished them success in their educational journey.

The event was graced by dignitaries including Hon. Sedem Afenyo, MP for Amasaman, Hon. John Desmond Sowah Nai, MCE for Ga West, Mr. Victor Noye Tawiah, Municipal Director of Education, Madam Bernice Acheampong from the Greater Accra Regional Education Office, Apostle Michael D. Narh the PRO of the Ga West Education Directorate, head teachers, and teachers of the participating schools.
