The Ga West Municipal Assembly on Wednesday, 26^th August 2026, hosted a stakeholder meeting bringing together representatives from MMDAs, Social Services, and the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to discuss social protection services for vulnerable women and adolescents.

The meeting, coordinated by Mr. Abubakari Abdallah, Consultant to BasicNeeds Ghana, focused on strengthening community systems to provide integrated HIV, Tuberculosis (TB), Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH), and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) services, particularly for women and adolescent girls living with or at risk of HIV.

Presentations highlighted key government interventions, including the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme and the Disability Fund, which support vulnerable persons through social and livelihood interventions. Participants were also briefed on efforts to improve HIV awareness, reduce stigma, and promote access to health services.

A representative of the NHIS, Mr. Michael Quashie, encouraged the public to register or renew their NHIS membership using the *929# USSD platform. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to ensure that persons living with HIV can access NHIS registration and quality healthcare without discrimination or illegal charges.

In his closing remarks, the Chairman of the Social Services Sub-Committee, Mr. J.B. Danquah, thanked participants for their contributions and emphasized the need for citizens to actively cooperate with government and partner agencies.

The meeting concluded with a call for stronger community sensitization, regular monitoring of social protection programmes, and continued collaboration among stakeholders to ensure that vulnerable women, adolescents, persons with disabilities, and other at-risk groups receive the support and healthcare they need.
