Ga West Municipal Assembly Holds Stakeholders Engagement on 2026 Fee Fixing

02.Oct.2025

The Ga West Municipal Assembly on Wednesday, 1st October 2025, held a stakeholders’ engagement with traders, artisans, and business owners in Amasaman to deliberate on the proposed 2026 Annual Fee Fixing for goods and services. The meeting, which took place at the Assembly Hall, provided a platform for participants to share their concerns and inputs on the Assembly’s proposed charges for the upcoming year.

During the discussions, stakeholders raised concerns about the Assembly’s initial proposal of a 20% increase in fees compared to 2025. They emphasized the need for moderation in the face of current economic challenges and called for a more sustainable increment that would not overburden businesses and livelihoods within the municipality.

After extensive deliberations, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon John Desmond Sowah Nai acknowledged the concerns of the participants and announced a downward revision of the proposal. The Assembly agreed to adopt a 10% increase instead of the initially suggested 20%.

The MCE underscored the importance of the engagement, stressing that the Assembly remains committed to fostering transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness in its decision-making processes. He commended the traders, artisans, and business community for their constructive contributions, adding that such engagements strengthen local governance and ensure that policies reflect the aspirations of the people.

The meeting forms part of the statutory processes of the Assembly to consult key stakeholders before finalizing its fee-fixing resolutions for the coming fiscal year.
