The Ga West Municipal Assembly marked Ghana’s 67th independence anniversary on Wednesday, March 6th, 2024 at Nsakina MA Basic School under the theme, "Our Democracy, Our Pride," The event was graced by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Clement Nii Lamptey Wilkinson, The Municipal Director for GES, Mr. Victor N. Tawiah and host of other dignitaries including the Chief of Nsakina, Nii Odartey IV and representatives of the Security agencies.
The event featured 10 public schools, 8 private schools, 2 senior high schools, as well as several traditional groups who participated in the march pass and other activities.
The march started with the school children who were beautifully dressed in their uniforms and was well organized. All the schools both public and private took part in the march.
Addressing the parade, the Municipal Chief Executive, emphasized the significance of the theme "Our Democracy, Our Pride" and encouraged everyone to focus on the primary purpose of celebrating Independence Day which is to reflect on our nation's history, acknowledge our progress, and contemplate our future path. By working together, we can move forward and strive for the betterment of our entire society. He encouraged the participants to celebrate our democracy with pride and gratitude and also remember the sacrifices of our forefathers and in making this nation great and strong.
He further highlighted the projects which have been undertaken within the Municipality through collaborative efforts of the Municipal Assembly and the Central Government. Some of these projects he mentioned are the construction of the Pokuase Nsawam Highway expected to be completed by August 2024, the construction of a 6 Unit Classroom Block for Nsakina MA Basic School, Construction of two storey twelve unit classroom with office and store at Adjen Kotoku, Construction of CHPS compound and staff bungalow at Obeyeyie, Construction of Abehenease to Sapeiman 5km road and many more. He further mentioned that the Assembly is currently involved in many more projects to bring total development of the Municipality. He also addressed the request by Nsakina MA Basic School for assistance in preventing residents from defecating in and around the school premises. This he said the Municipal Health Director has taken the necessary measures to halt the nuisance.
Awards were presented to the participating schools and cadets that took part in the March Pass as well as students who excelled in their BECE examinations. The overall best school in the Public School Category was won by Adusa M/A Basic School 2 (Mayera Circuit). Rising Star Montessori School won in the Private school category whiles Akramaman Senior High School won the Senior High School Category.
