MISSION:

To work in partnership with Individuals, Families, Groups and Communities to improve their Social Wellbeing through their active participation in promoting development with equity.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES:

Facilitate the mobilization and use of available human and material resources to improve the living standards of Individuals, Groups, Families and Communities within an effectively decentralized system of administration.

Prevent and respond to social exclusion and mal adjustment within the context of National and Sub- National Development efforts

SUPPORT FOR PWD

The Department supports and coordinates the activities of Individual & Organisations of all Persons living with various forms of disabilities (PWDs).

 The department is responsible for constantly updating and managing a comprehensive database of all PWDs and Organisations of same within the Municipality.

Who’s Eligible for Support?

Persons living with all forms of disabilities, living within the Municipality are eligible for various forms of support from the Disability Fund allocated to the Assembly.        

Kinds of Support for PWDs?

  • Educational Support
  • Medical Support
  • Economic Empowerment
  • Support to purchase Assistive Devices, Technical Aides and Equipment
  • Sensitization Programs for and by Organisations of Persons With Disabilities (OPWDs)

 How To Register?

       PWD applicants with the help of their caregivers (where necessary) can     present the following details at the Department’s PWD desk for registration;

  • A full-bodied photograph
  • 1 Passport Sized picture
  • An application indicating the kind of support needed
  • A valid National Identification card (preferably the Ghana Card) to authenticate your nationality

 

REGISTRATION & MONITORING OF EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT CENTRES (PRE-SCHOOL & DAY-CARE CENTRES).

How to Register?

  • Secure Business Registration Certificate from the Registrar General’s Department.
  • Present Certificate to the Department as proof of Registration
  • Pick & Submit a Day-Care Centre Registration form at the Department’s desk.
  • Inspection of the facility will be conducted within a week after submission of Registration forms.
  • After the necessary standards are satisfied, as determined by Officers, the facility is approved and subsequently graded.

 

 

CHILD & FAMILY WELFARE CASE MANAGEMENT

The Department manages effectively, small, medium & high-risk Child Protection Cases using Case Management (CMSOPs) & Inter-Sectoral Standard Operating Procedures (ISSOPs).

Pre-Mediation Process (Before a Case is Heard);

  • The Complainant reports their case at the Family Welfare desk.
  • The Officer-In-Charge assesses and determines the type of case as presented by the Complainant, i.e. Child Maintenance, Child Access, Child Custody, Family Welfare
  • A convenient date of hearing is scheduled with the consent of the Complainant.
  • Then an Invitation letter is prepared for the Complainant to be served to the Respondent.

Key Note: Reported cases that fall outside our mandate as a department will be referred to the appropriate/relevant Institutions or Agencies (ISSOPs).

 

 

NHIS REGISTRATION & RENEWAL FOR INDIGENTS

The Department facilitates the registration and renewal of National Health Insurance Cards for the following category of persons;

  • Persons With Disabilities (PWDs)
  • LEAP Beneficiaries
  • Other Indigents (Extremely Poor and Vulnerable people)

 

 

LEAP PAYMENTS

The Department is mandated to Educate, Roll-out & Monitor payment of cash grants to LEAP beneficiaries.

 

BUSINESS SUPPORT & SKILL TRAINING

The Department empowers Women groups by offering alternative livelihood skill programs in Soap Making, Beads Making, Local Drinks Production, etc…

 

RESIDENTIAL HOMES FOR CHILDREN

The Department Monitors & Evaluates the operation of Residential Homes for Children (RHCs) within the Municipality, duly registered with the department.

 

COMMUNITY & SCHOOL ENGAGEMENTS

Adult Education & Child Protection Sensitization

The department sensitizes Community members on Government policies & programs, Socially Sensitive topics & Health related matters.

Schools and Communities are sensitized on Child and Family Welfare Policy as well as Justice for Children Policy.

 

EXTENSION SERVICES

The Department collaborates with NGOs and other Governmental Organisations as well as other partners to roll out community-based empowerment programs on sensitive topics such as Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV), Child Marriage, Child Labor and other Economic Empowerment programs, targeted at alleviating Community members, especially women from impoverished situation and social stereotypes.
