The Ga West Municipal Assembly has Business Advisory Centre (BAC) of the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) established in January, 2013 to focus on the coordination, promotion and development of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector in the Municipality.

The Ga West Business Advisory Centre (BAC) is positioned to meet the contemporary needs of the rapidly expanding MSMEs sector in the Municipality. It creates a vibrant entrepreneurial economy through the improvement of competitiveness of MSMEs by facilitating the provision of business development programmes and integrated support services that is adequately capitalized and capable of responding to the needs of the MSMEs sector in the Municipality.

To ensure that MSMEs have access to substantial, high quality, affordable and accessible Business Support Services, the BAC’s role is to:

  • Contributing to the creation of an enabling environment for MSME development.
  • Facilitating access to credit
  • Provision of non-financial services to potential and existing entrepreneurs in the manufacturing and servicing sectors.
  • The provision of assistance to trade/business associations.
  • Provision of high quality technical and management trainings (Basic and Advance trainings).
  • Contributing to the development of an enterprise culture in Ghana.

Procedures in starting a business in Ga West

Procedure 1:

  • Business registration
  • Check for availability of business name and obtain registration forms from the Registrar Generals Department, Accra.
  • You must obtained a tax identification number from the Ghana Revenue Authority.

Procedure 2:

  • Open a bank account
  • Present your business registration certificate, form ‘A’ and signed written application to the bank to open a business account:

Procedure 3:

Apply for business license from the Ga West Municipal Assembly

  • Businesses must acquire Business Operating Permit (BOP) from the Municipal Assembly in order to operate.
  • The cost of applying for a business license at the Municipal Assembly depends on the type of business and the category in which it falls.
  • Documents to be submitted depends on the type of enterprise

Procedure 4:

  • Obtain environmental certificate and other industry specific licenses. For example: restaurant must have permit from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Procedure 5:

  • Apply for social security
  • To apply for social security, attach the list of employees, their respective salaries and the business certificate of incorporation and certificate to commence business.
